When are deliveries made?
Tuesday and Thursday mornings between 10:45 – 12 noon. Our volunteers pick up
meals between 10:30 and 10:45 on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Depending
on traffic and the number of recipients they deliver to, meals generally arrive by
noon time.
How are deliveries made?
Deliveries are made right to the recipient’s door. A cooler, containing an ice pack,
left on the doorstep may also be used for deliveries. For apartment buildings
some recipients meet volunteers at the building entrance, others buzz volunteers
into the building and then the delivery is made right at their apartment door.
Do volunteers wear masks if they are in contact with the recipients?
Volunteers observe the COVID mask requirement we have within our province.
Some recipients leave a cooler outside of their door (must have an ice pack in it)
for volunteers to place meals inside, further limiting contact.
If for any reason MOW was unable to deliver, would you contact recipients?
When we need to cancel delivery, every recipient is called. We encourage
recipients to have a BACK UP MEAL on hand in the event we had to cancel. If we
cancel due to inclement weather, we register our cancellation on the CBC Storm
Cancellation Line 1-877-236-9350.
If a recipient needs to cancel an order, when and whom must be informed?
We require a 24-hour notice to cancel without charge. This timeline is currently
being monitored to better understand how well it works for our kitchen staff.
Please call the coordinator by 8:00am the day before we deliver. (902)869-6103
When and where are meals made?
Meals are made at the Sackville Legion, on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and
Thursday mornings.
What is the weekly menu and is it always the same?
We follow a low-sodium menu on a six-week rotation, updated annually.
Are vegetables frozen or fresh?
We use mostly frozen vegetables, some fresh, and very rarely canned vegetables
if fresh or frozen are not accessible.
Are desserts homemade or store bought?
We use a combination of store-bought and homemade desserts.
Do you need to sign a contract?
No, we only require a completed application form.
Is there a requirement as to how many meals you must order per week?
We do not offer one week on and one week off service. Once a recipient is
involved in the program there must be a weekly delivery of a fixed number of
meals (one or more) on the same delivery days, until the service is cancelled.
How do you place your orders?
We decide on a delivery plan during the application process. Dietary needs can be
discussed at this time, based on our menu, and feedback is welcome always!
Is someone other than the recipient able to coordinate the ordering of meals and payment on their behalf?
Absolutely!
What does each meal cost?
Each meal costs $8.00 and consists of soup/roll, entrée, dessert.
Is there an initial registration fee?
No extra fees!
What are accepted payment methods?
Cash, cheque and e-transfer. Each recipient (or household) is contacted for
invoicing at the end of each month – after meals have been received.
[send E-transfers to mealsonwheels.sackvillebedford@gmail.com]
Reoccurring payments in arrears may lead to discontinued service.
